In the rare event someone donates a computer that is worthy of being donated to a school, or none for profit we recommend the removal of the hard drive and securely shred it with our Data Management Program its even advisable you keep the hard drive and use it as a secondary or storage drive.

How Do You Get Sensitive Data Off Your Old Computer ?


If you need the data from your old computer before you recycle it. We can take care of this for you, or you can do it yourself. Here is the easiest method of procuring your data from your olf computer.

Open the built-in windows search program and start a search for all types of files then type in all common file types, at this time you would then type in, or copy and paste the following line.

*.pst, *.ost, *.pab, *.rtf, *.doc, *.wps, *.dot,*.txt, *.xls, *.xlt, *.xlw, *.csv, *.*.ppt, *.pdf, *.bak, *.jpg, *.gif, *.bmp, *.mdb, *.mpg,*.mp3, *.aac, *.zip, *.rar, *.mov, *.avi, *.mpg,

Open your favorite compression tool, winrar, winzip, zip, and add all the search results in the zip file. This method has a few distinct advantages over having a program do it for you.

 

  1. All files folders and file names remain intact and unchanged
  2. You don’t need to worry about renaming files if you have multiple files named the same.
  3. Importing the data into your new computer is easier.

 

The compressed file can then be put onto a CD, DVD, or USB drive and extracted, the drive can then be formatted or wiped using any number of free utilities, at this time we will re-iterate that we do not reuse hardware from our recycle program, if you are still concerned, we do offer a Data Management Program that ensures absolute data destruction via an alternate business.
